Bhubaneswar, Aug 19: The Out Patient Department (OPD) of Capital Hospital here in the city is jampacked as patients pile up with fever complaints.
The doctors had examined 279 patients by 12.30 pm on Friday in the OPD. The situation is very similar for doctors and nurses working in the inpatient department.
Now there are 70 patients in the temporary beds of male and female wards of the hospital and doctors and nurses are overloaded with checking and treating patients using limited human resources.
I have been waiting with my mother for over two hours but have yet to consult the doctor said Sanatan Kalash of Bolagarh.
My wife is suffering from fever for the last three days. After an hour-long wait, I managed to consult the doctor. But the doctors are in worse condition than us with the overload of patients, said Babuli Baliarsingh of Jatani.
The number of patients complaining of high fever has been steadily rising in the past few days, attending doctors said adding that although the cases are unlike to get serious the Dengue fear is forcing people to visit hospitals with mild fever or fever-like symptoms.
