Campaigning Ends for Datia Assembly Bypoll, Voting on July 30

DATIA (MP), July 28: Campaigning for the Datia Assembly by-election in Madhya Pradesh concluded on Tuesday evening, setting the stage for polling on July 30. The bypoll will see a direct contest between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress, with a third candidate from the Aazad Samaj Party also in the race.

The BJP has nominated Ashutosh Tiwari, a move that sparked discontent among supporters of former state Home Minister Narottam Mishra.

The Congress has fielded Ghanshyam Singh, while Damodar Singh Yadav is contesting on an Aazad Samaj Party ticket, making the contest triangular.

The by-election was necessitated after Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti was disqualified from the Assembly following his conviction in a cheating case.

Votes will be counted on August 3.
