Bhubaneswar, May 6: In a continuing crackdown on the illegal narcotics trade, the Special Task Force (STF) of the Crime Branch has arrested a brown sugar peddler from the outskirts of the state capital. The accused, identified as Jyoti Samantray, was found in possession of 263 grams of brown sugar, with an estimated street value of over ₹25 lakh.
Acting on reliable intelligence inputs, the STF team intercepted the drug consignment en route from Balasore to Khordha. A swift raid led to the arrest of Samantray and the seizure of the contraband.
STF Superintendent of Police Ravi Shatapathy confirmed the arrest and said further investigation is underway to uncover the network behind the smuggling operation. Authorities suspect the involvement of additional individuals in the racket and efforts are on to identify and apprehend them.
