Cuttack, December 30: Cuttack Municipal Corporation (CMC) Commissioner Kirandeep Kaur Sahota has appealed CMC officials not to bring flower bouquets, gifts, sweets or any plastic items while visiting the Commissioner to extend greetings on the New Year’s Day.

The move is aimed promoting simplicity, discipline and environmental responsibility.

“It has become a practice that on the occasion of New Year, Officers and staff visit the office of the Commissioner, CMC to convey greetings along with flowers, gifts, sweets etc,” said an official order issued by the Commissioner on Monday.

“In order to promote simplicity, discipline and environmental responsibility, and our strong commitment to make CMC plastic-free, it is hereby ordered that no Officer/Staff shall bring or present any item such as Flower Bouquet, Gifts, Sweets, or any item made of Plastic during New Year greetings,” read the order.

Worth mentioning, Kirandeep Kaur Sahota joined as new Commissioner of CMC in July 2025. An IAS officer of the 2021 batch, she holds a B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication from Punjab Tech. University, Jalandhar.
