Bhubaneswar, July 19: A  25-year-old woman who had been missing from Odisha's Sambalpur district was allegedly abducted and murdered by her boyfriend, with police recovering her body near a forest after the accused reportedly confessed to the crime.

The victim, identified as Sarita Sa, was a resident of Kusumi Mahulaguda village under the Mahulapali police station limits. She worked at a beauty parlour in Kuchinda town and was reportedly in a relationship with the accused, Anil Pruseth of Kundaposi village.

Sarita had been missing since Thursday. Her family lodged a complaint on Friday, alleging that Pruseth had abducted and killed her before disposing of the body.

Acting on the complaint filed by the victim's father, police detained Pruseth for questioning. During interrogation, he allegedly confessed to the crime, a police officer said.

Based on the accused's disclosure, made in the presence of independent witnesses, police recovered Sarita's body from near the foothills of the Badrama forest under the Jamankira police station area on Saturday.

Investigators also recovered the victim'schunri, allegedly used to strangle her, after the accused led them to the spot. Police have launched a detailed investigation into the case.
