Cuttack, June 9: A case of alleged medical negligence at a private nursing home in Ranihat, Cuttack, has prompted the district health department to launch an investigation. A woman, Diptimayee Barik—wife of a jawan—underwent a surgery for medical termination of pregnancy during which her rectum was mistakenly cut, leading to serious complications.
She was later shifted to a Bhubaneswar hospital for further treatment. Following media reports, the Chief District Medical Officer (CDMO) formed a technical committee of gynecology and surgery experts to probe the incident. CDMO Dr. Prashant Hota confirmed that hospital documents are being examined, and the facility’s registration is under review.
The ADMO and police have visited the hospital, and the owner has been interrogated. A police case has been registered based on the victim’s complaint. Authorities have assured strict action if negligence is confirmed.
