Mumbai, Mar 21: Renowned fashion designer Manish Malhotra is in mourning following the passing of his mother, Sudarshan Malhotra, on Thursday, March 19. Her funeral was held on Friday morning at the Santacruz Hindu Crematorium in Mumbai.
Following the news, several Bollywood celebrities visited Malhotra’s residence to pay their respects. Many also expressed condolences on social media after the designer shared an emotional tribute to his mother on Instagram, posting a picture of her with the caption, “Love and Miss you Forever.”
Celebrities Ananya Panday, Upasana Kamineni, Zoya Akhtar, Karisma Kapoor, Malaika Arora, and Riddhima Kapoor responded with heart emojis. Farah Khan wrote, “She was just amazing, Manish..” while legendary actor Anupam Kher added, “Sorry for your loss my dear Manish. Nothing in the world can replace the emotion called MOTHER.” Dia Mirza also extended her condolences, writing, “You reflect her in every moment of kindness and love you so generously share..Deepest condolences and love to you, Manish.”
Several prominent figures from the film industry attended the funeral, including Karan Johar, Urmila Matondkar, Ronit Roy, Rakul Preet Singh, Jackky Bhagnani, Fatima Sana Shaikh, Saiyami Kher, Sophie Choudry, David Dhawan and his son Rohit, and Karan Tacker.
Manish shared a close bond with his mother, often crediting her for his inspiration and strength. On Mother’s Day, he had described her as his “strength, inspiration and companion,” recalling how she encouraged his early passion for clothes and cinema. “This morning having tea with her, I was thanking her for always encouraging my love for clothes and movies since childhood,” he had written at the time.
