BMC warns of action if allotted houses are rented out; 138 families get homes

Bhubaneswar, April 22: The Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Tuesday allotted houses to 138 families under the Chandrasekharpur Buddha Vihar Affordable Housing Project, while issuing a stern warning against renting out the units.

Mayor Sulochana Das cautioned beneficiaries that strict action would be taken if the allotted houses are given on rent. “The houses are meant for beneficiaries’ own use. Any violation will invite action,” she said.

The beneficiaries, drawn from Ekamra Villa, Maa Bhagabati Basti, Salia Sahi, Bhoi Nagar and Saraswati Basti, received the houses through a lottery system conducted by the civic body.

The allotment programme was attended by the Mayor, Deputy Mayor, Commissioner, Additional Commissioner, Standing Committee Chairperson and corporators, who handed over the houses to the beneficiaries.

BMC officials said the housing units are equipped with basic amenities, including drinking water, electricity and proper waste management systems, ensuring a better standard of living for the relocated families.
