New Delhi, Aug 17: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has announced a new team of national office-bearers under party president Nitin Nabin, bringing together experienced leaders, younger faces and representatives from different regions as the party prepares for elections in several states.
The appointments are being viewed as an effort to strengthen the BJP’s organisational machinery and broaden its political outreach ahead of the upcoming electoral battles.
The most notable development is the political comeback of former Union minister Smriti Irani. Irani has been appointed one of the BJP’s eight national general secretaries, returning her to a prominent position at the centre of the party’s election and organisational strategy ahead of Uttar Pradesh assembly elections.
The BJP has appointed 13 national vice presidents as part of the reshuffle. The list includes former Rajasthan chief minister Vasundhara Raje Scindia, senior leader Ram Madhav, D. Purandeshwari and Baijayant Jay Panda. Former Uttarakhand chief minister Tirath Singh Rawat, former Union minister Bharti Pawar, Manpreet Singh Badal and Tariq Mansoor have also been appointed national vice presidents.
The party has also named eight national general secretaries. Along with Smriti Irani, the list includes former Tripura chief minister Biplab Deb, Sunil Bansal, Vinod Tawde and Satish Poonia. Gajendra Patel, Harish Dwivedi and Sanjay Bhatia have also been appointed national general secretaries.
In another key organisational decision, Shivprakash and Saudan Singh have been appointed national joint general secretaries (organisation).
The BJP has also appointed 16 national secretaries as part of the new team. Piyush Goyal has been appointed national treasurer, adding another senior political figure to the party’s central organisational structure.
The reshuffle extends beyond the BJP’s core national office-bearers. The party has announced new leadership for several of its frontal organisations, or morchas. Hemang Joshi has been appointed president of the BJP Yuva Morcha, while Roop Kumari Choudhary will head the BJP Mahila Morcha.
