Kendrapara, June 24: In a shocking incident, a local BJP booth president was allegedly murdered while attempting to resolve a dispute in Ramnagar village under Jambu Marine Police Station limits of Kendrapara district on Tuesday night.
The deceased has been identified as Tapan Das, a BJP booth president from the area. According to reports, an argument broke out between Sanjay Mandal, a mason, and Bijan Saha, a labourer, after Sanjay visited Bijan's house late at night. As the verbal altercation escalated, Tapan Das intervened to settle the matter.
Sources said that as tensions mounted, Bijan fled the scene. However, Sanjay allegedly turned his anger towards Tapan. In a fit of rage, he reportedly attacked Tapan with a wooden plank and later struck him on the head with a brick lying nearby.
Tapan sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to a nearby health centre. However, doctors declared him dead on arrival.
Police have launched an investigation into the incident and are taking steps to apprehend the accused. The shocking murder has triggered tension and grief in the locality.
