Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: The Biju Janata Dal (BJD) staged a protest on Gandhi Marg in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, raising concerns over alleged errors in school textbooks. Hundreds of members of the Biju Yuva Janata Dal and Biju Chhatra Janata Dal took part in the demonstration and attempted to march towards the Odisha Legislative Assembly.
The protesters demanded the resignation of School and Mass Education Minister Nityananda Gond, holding him morally responsible for the alleged errors in the textbooks. The BJD also demanded that corrected and error-free textbooks be supplied to students at the earliest.

The protest follows a demonstration held by the Biju Yuva and Chhatra Janata Dal on Gandhi Marg on Tuesday. In view of the planned protest by organisational functionaries from various districts, security arrangements around the Legislative Assembly have been tightened, with a three-tier security system deployed. A heavy police presence was also reported along Gandhi Marg.
Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also raised the textbook issue inside the Assembly, with members staging protests and raising slogans. Following the disruption, the Speaker adjourned the House until 4 pm.
The Congress also staged a protest over the MMDR issue, adding to the political activity in and around the Assembly premises.
