Bihar’s Bharat Tiwari Encounter Case: Prashant Kishor Demands Judicial Probe

Patna, June 24: Jan Suraaj founder Prashant Kishor met the family of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari, a 28-year-old student and activist who died in an alleged police encounter in Bihar's Bhojpur district on June 17. Kishor demanded a judicial inquiry to identify both those involved in the killing and those who ordered it.

The Bharat Tiwari Sangharsh Samiti organized a Mahapanchayat, drawing large public support and warning of protests, including a Bihar Assembly gherao and nationwide road blockades, if the accused are not arrested. Former Congress MLA Munna Tiwari demanded ₹1 crore compensation for the family and martyr status for Bharat Tiwari.

Bharat's brother, Chandan Tiwari, announced plans to continue the protest in Delhi after completing the last rites. Several public figures have criticized the police action and called for a fair investigation.

Following a complaint by Bharat's mother, Bihar Police registered an FIR against a DSP, SHO, and other police personnel. Amid growing public and political pressure, Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary ordered an independent judicial inquiry led by a retired High Court judge and suspended four police officers pending investigation.
