Patna, December 17: Despite the Supreme Court's strict instructions and guidelines restricting the demolition of houses belonging to criminals, Bihar Police conducted a controversial operation in East Champaran on Tuesday, demolishing the houses of over 100 absconding criminals.
An official reported that police teams arrived at the homes of absconding individuals with pending warrants and initiated demolition actions using JCB machines. The large-scale operation, led by SP Swarn Prabhat, is part of a district-wide campaign focused on the attachment and confiscation of properties belonging to criminals who have evaded law enforcement.
SP Swarn Prabhat personally supervised the operation in parts of Motihari city. In a significant instance, he directed the attachment of property owned by Vishwanath Vishwas, a notorious criminal in the area.
Commenting on the operation, SP Swarn Prabhat emphasized that the measures target individuals who failed to comply with court orders and surrender despite repeated notices.
“The attachment and confiscation actions serve as a stern warning to the accused while showcasing the administration's commitment to law enforcement and accountability,” he stated.
As part of the ongoing campaign, SP Swarn Prabhat confirmed that all 50 police station heads, circle inspectors, and DSPs in the district are actively participating.
“So far, 10 to 12 individuals with warrants have surrendered due to the strict measures.
The latest demolition action highlights the Bihar Police’s intensified efforts to restore law and order in the region, with visible outcomes in the surrender of absconding criminals and recovery of illicit properties. However, the move has also sparked debates regarding adherence to legal protocols amid growing concerns over administrative excesses.
