Bhubaneswar, Sept 1: The government has unveiled ambitious plans to transform Bhubaneswar into a world-class city. Under these plans, the capital city will be integrated with Puri, Cuttack, and Paradip to form a single economic zone. The state government aims to establish three distinct economic zones across Odisha, with a focus on boosting the state's growth.
Usha Padhi, the Secretary of the Housing and Urban Development Department, shared details of the initiative, explaining that, as part of the "Quad City" program, the cities of Sunabeda, Koraput, Baripada, and Sambalpur will form the second economic zone. In the northern region, the third zone will include Rourkela, Kendujhar, and Barbil.
These zones will focus on cities that contribute significantly to the state’s GDP, positioning them as key economic hubs. The aim is not just urban growth but to enhance the overall economic activity of the entire state. The government’s goal is to boost Odisha’s economic landscape through the development of these zones, facilitating better integration and progress across the region.
This plan is being driven by an internal committee under the coordination of the Odisha government and the NITI Aayog. The "Quad City" project is advancing with the promise of transforming the state’s economic and infrastructural landscape.
