Bhubaneswar, Nov 7: The Bhubaneswar metro rail project, a significant infrastructure development in Odisha, is poised for completion by December 2027. This ambitious initiative aims to revolutionize urban transportation in the city, effectively addressing traffic congestion and improving connectivity in key areas.
According to sources, the metro trains will operate on elevated tracks, standing 13 meters above ground level, with certain sections, including Rajmahal, Jaydev Vihar, and Baranga, requiring even higher elevations. The metro system is designed for efficiency, with trains expected to run every 10 minutes. Plans include the procurement of 13 metro trains, each comprising three coaches.
Currently, soil testing is underway for the project, involving the collection of samples from depths of 50 to 60 meters at various locations. These samples will be analyzed in laboratories located in Delhi and Cuttack, with the testing expected to be completed within two months. Once the soil analysis is finalized, the next phase will focus on designing the foundations for the metro structures.
Simultaneously, construction of the casting yard is progressing at Ghatikia, where essential components for the project will be manufactured. Additionally, a project maintenance depot is being established at Ratagada near Trisulia.
To further enhance commuter convenience, road expansion work from Sishu Bhawan Square to Raghunathpur is also in progress, with an anticipated completion timeline of two months. This comprehensive development underscores Bhubaneswar's commitment to modernizing its transport infrastructure and improving the overall commuting experience for its residents.
