Bhubaneswar, July 2: In a horrific incident, a three-year-old girl was allegedly raped and later died during treatment, here.
Police have arrested the accused, identified as Santosh Khuntia (25) along with one of his friends.
According to sources, the girl child was living in Sundarpada area of the city with her parents. The incident took place on Monday when her parents were away for some work and the child was alone at home. Taking advantage, Santosh, who happens to be their neighbor, allegedly raped the toddler. He fled from the spot after committing the heinous crime.
Upon returning home, the child’s parents found her in a critical state and rushed her to the Capital Hospital where she breathed her last during treatment.
Following this, the bereaved parents lodged a complaint with Airfield Police. Acting on their complaint, the police registered a case and made the arrests.
On the other hand, accused Santosh’s mother dismissed the rape allegations. She further added that she has no idea about his son's whereabouts and if proven guilty, he should be punished.
Further investigation into the matter was underway.
