Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: The second food bazaar on Jagamara-New Airport Road causes traffic congestion as people stop on the side of the road in front of it, taking up one-half of the narrow road and leaving little space for traffic.
Illegal parking on the road in front of the old food bazaar was causing traffic congestion on the busy road as it is located beside the main road that connects Khandagiri with Biju Patnaik International Airport.
According to the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) guideline, permission will not be granted for opening of new market without having a parking facility.
The civic body had formed a joint task force along with the Commissionerate Police to check the setting up of illegal markets in the city.
Two fast food stalls have opened adjacent to the boundary of the airport. The non-veg remains of the two stalls attract birds. The airport authority has several times written the civic body for eviction of non-veg shops and wet markets adjacent to the airport boundary. However, the second food court has been set up violating all the guidelines.
The zonal deputy commissioner of the south-west zone said he has written to the planning department of BMC in this regard. "I am not aware of the action taken by the department", he said.
