Bhograi: Villagers intercept sale of midday meal rice over unauthorized sale

Bhograi, May 2: In a concerning incident in Bhograi, Balasore district, locals intervened when rice meant for school midday meals was being sold in the market. The episode took place near a warehouse close to the Midday Meal Rice Distribution Point at Bhograi Saharia Primary School. Villagers immediately informed supply officials upon noticing the rice being taken out for sale.

According to reports, on Saturday morning, six sacks of rice meant for school children were taken from the primary school’s midday meal stock to a nearby warehouse for sale. Observing this, local residents questioned the personnel on-site and raised concerns about the diversion of school food supplies.

Acting on the villagers’ complaint, Bhograi Supply Officer Ambika Prasad Rath arrived at the scene, seized the six sacks of rice, and initiated an investigation. The situation reportedly created tension among the locals, who expressed their anger over the attempted sale of rice intended for children’s meals.

Authorities are investigating how the rice, designated for school midday meals, was diverted and are expected to take strict action against those responsible.
