Kendrapara, July 26: The world-renowned Bhitarkanika National Park is set to reopen for tourists from August 1, following its annual closure during the crocodile breeding season from May 1 to July 31.
With preparations in full swing, forest officials have introduced several new attractions to enhance the visitor experience. Tourists will now have the opportunity to explore the Mangrove Nursery, where saplings of various salt-tolerant plant species are on display, offering a rare glimpse into the region’s unique ecosystem.
A special highlight this season is the Boat Library, where visitors can enjoy reading materials related to wildlife, biodiversity, and environmental conservation. The park’s museum has also been upgraded, and tourists can once again see the park’s iconic white crocodiles – Gori, Malli, and Sweta.
For riverine exploration, six fiber boats will be available at Dangamala, while four more have been stationed at Gupti to facilitate smooth tourist movement within the water channels of the park.
Continuing its eco-friendly practices, the Forest Department has reiterated its strict ban on polythene, urging tourists not to carry plastic materials into the protected area.
To boost eco-tourism infrastructure, a new watchtower has been constructed in the Bhitarkanika forest block, offering panoramic views of the surrounding mangrove landscape. Additionally, a 600-meter-long wooden skywalk has been developed near the Meta Nursery, allowing visitors to experience the forest canopy up close.
Authorities expect a steady influx of nature enthusiasts and urge all visitors to follow park guidelines for a safe and enriching experience.
