Berhampur, May 4: Babita Suna, Assistant Sub-Inspector (ASI) of the Berhampur Mahila Police Station, was caught red-handed on Tuesday by the Vigilance Department while accepting a bribe of ₹10,000 from an accused individual in connection with a dowry torture case.
According to Vigilance officials, ASI Suna had allegedly demanded the bribe in exchange for settling the case. Acting on a complaint filed by the victim, the Vigilance team laid a trap and apprehended the officer while she was accepting the money.
Following the operation, the Vigilance team launched a detailed investigation into various aspects of the case, including the officer’s conduct and previous case handling.
Sources revealed that ASI Suna had been transferred to another police station in April. However, she reportedly did not vacate her position at the Mahila Police Station. Interestingly, her transfer order was officially cancelled on May 22 through a separate directive.
Further investigation is underway.
