BCCI Confirms End of Sponsorship Deal with Dream11
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially confirmed the end of its title sponsorship deal with the fantasy sports giant, Dream11. The decision is a direct consequence of the new "Promotion and Regulation of Online Gaming Bill, 2025," which was recently passed by Parliament and bans all online games involving real money.
New Law Triggers Contract Clause
The new legislation directly impacts Dream11's core business model. According to reports, the sponsorship agreement contained a specific clause allowing the company to exit the deal without a penalty if a change in Indian law affected its primary business. Dream11 representatives visited the BCCI office to formally communicate their decision to pull out of the partnership.
Search for a New Sponsor Begins
BCCI Secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed the development, stating that the board would not associate with any such organizations in the future. The BCCI is now expected to issue a new tender to find a replacement title sponsor for the Indian cricket team ahead of the upcoming Asia Cup.
The partnership between the BCCI and Dream11 began in July 2023. It was a three-year deal valued at ₹358 crore, with Dream11 replacing the ed-tech firm BYJU’S as the lead sponsor. The abrupt end to this high-profile partnership highlights the immediate and significant impact of the new gaming law on one of the country's most prominent industries.
