Additional SP Deepak Kumar Gochhayat provided detailed information about the case in a press conference held on Wednesday at the Baripada Sadar police station.

The deceased woman has been identified as Sambari Singh from Barajpur area under the same police jurisdiction. She had previously been married twice and had both a son and a daughter.

Before the murder, Sambari had been living with her sister Chandmani Munda in a rented house in Damodarpur. Both women were working as daily wage laborers. During this period, Sambari had developed a romantic relationship with Kartikeshwar Singh.

However, a dispute arose between the two, which escalated on March 26, 2025, when Kartikeshwar visited Sambari’s house. A heated argument took place, following which Kartikeshwar attacked Sambari on the head with a brick. She died on the spot due to excessive bleeding.

Later that night, when her sister Chandmani returned home from work, she found Sambari’s body lying in a pool of blood in the verandah and immediately filed a complaint at the Baripada Sadar police station the next day.

Under the direction of SP Varun Guntupalli, police investigated the scene thoroughly. With support from a forensic team, the investigation quickly pointed to Kartikeshwar's involvement. After an extensive search, the accused was tracked down and arrested in Tamil Nadu.

Kartikeshwar Singh has been taken into custody and produced before the court.
