Puri, July 29: The police team investigating the shocking case of the minor girl who was allegedly set on fire in Odisha’s Balanga district is set to return to Odisha today (Tuesday) after recording the victim’s statement at AIIMS, New Delhi.
Sources said the team, comprising senior officials including the Puri Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and officers from the Balanga police station, had traveled to Delhi for the interrogation. The questioning, which was originally scheduled for Monday, was delayed as the girl had to undergo surgery. Once the medical procedure was completed, the team proceeded to record her statement.
The victim was questioned for nearly 30 minutes, and the entire session was captured on video for legal and investigative purposes. This marks the third time the minor has given her statement in connection with the case.
Reliable sources confirm that the victim has maintained consistency in her narrative across all three statements, reiterating the same sequence of events each time.
Before returning to Odisha, the investigation team is expected to visit AIIMS once more to briefly interact with the victim for additional questioning.
Meanwhile, in view of the sensitivity of the case, police security has been stepped up outside the victim’s residence in Balanga. Personnel have been deployed round-the-clock to ensure her safety.
The case has sparked widespread concern, prompting demands for swift justice and a thorough probe.
