Relief on Horizon as Temps Set to Rise, Fog Alert Issued

Winter's grip on the state remains tight today, but relief is reportedly on the way. According to the latest data from the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar, residents across Odisha can expect a shift in weather patterns over the next few days. While severe cold currently dominates specific pockets, a gradual warming trend is predicted.

Current Cold Wave Conditions

G. Udayagiri continues to be the coldest spot in the state, shivering at a freezing 2.8°C. In the plains, Phulbani recorded the lowest minimum temperature at 5.8°C. Cold wave conditions are actively prevailing in isolated pockets of Angul and Jharsuguda districts, requiring residents to stay bundled up.

Capital city Bhubaneswar recorded a minimum night temperature of 10.9°C, while Cuttack hovered slightly lower at 10.2°C. Dry weather has largely prevailed over the districts of Odisha today.

Temperature Forecast: Gradual Rise

Forecasters have brought some warm news for those struggling with the chill. There will be a gradual rise in Minimum Temperature (Night temperature) by 2°C to 4°C during the next 3 to 4 days across the districts of Odisha. Following this rise, no large changes are expected.

Fog Warning for Commuters

While the biting cold may subside, visibility is set to decrease. The weather department has issued a "Shallow to Moderate Fog" warning.

  • Day 1 (Valid to Morning of Jan 19): Fog is likely in isolated pockets of Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, Cuttack, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Angul, Dhenkanal, and Kandhamal.
  • Day 2 & 3 (Jan 19 - Jan 21): Fog conditions will persist primarily in Cuttack, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Kendrapada, and Kalahandi.

Commuters in the Twin Cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, as well as coastal districts, are advised to drive with caution during early morning hours due to reduced visibility.
