ASI caught red-handed taking bribe in Cuttack

The arrested officer has been identified as Pradeep Kumar Behera.

According to an official release, Behera was caught red-handed by Vigilance officials while accepting the bribe from a complainant over a village dispute. Both parties involved in the dispute had earlier filed counter reports, which were later resolved amicably through mutual compromise.

However, despite the matter being settled, ASI Behera allegedly demanded a bribe from one of the complainants to avoid initiating action based on the previous counter report. Acting swiftly on the complaint received, the Vigilance department set up a trap and apprehended Behera during the transaction.

The entire bribe amount of Rs 5,000 was recovered from his possession and seized as evidence. Following his arrest, simultaneous searches were launched at three locations associated with the ASI to investigate any disproportionate assets.

A case has been registered under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018, at the Cuttack Vigilance Police Station (Case No. 12/21.5.2025).

Further investigation is underway.
