Jagatsinghpur, May 15: In a major breakthrough, police have arrested five accused involved in a recent armed dacoity at Dandilo village under Biridi police limits of Jagatsinghpur district. The robbery, which took place on the night of May 2, left one person injured. Two other suspects involved in the crime remain absconding.
According to police sources, a joint team from Biridi and Mahanga police stations carried out multiple raids at different locations and successfully apprehended five members of the dacoit gang. The accused reportedly hail from Tirtol and Biridi areas and have a history of criminal activities with multiple cases registered against them.
During the arrests, police recovered a country-made firearm, three mobile phones, two motorcycles, and a significant amount of gold and silver ornaments looted during the robbery.
The incident occurred late at night when the armed miscreants barged into the house of Sukanta Maharana, also targeting two other families staying as tenants in the same premises. The gang reportedly threatened the residents at gunpoint and made away with valuables including cash and jewelry. One resident sustained injuries during the attack.
Police have intensified efforts to trace and arrest the remaining two accused. An investigation is currently underway to determine if the gang is linked to other similar crimes in the region.
