Puri, Oct 19: The sacred festival of Vijaya Dashami, also known as Dussehra, will be observed at the Shree Jagannath Temple in Puri on Wednesday, with special rituals and the much-awaited golden attire, or Suna Besha, of the deities.
As part of the rituals, the deities on the Ratna Singhasana will proceed to the Mahakhala at Ballav Math. The divine deities Durga and Madhab will also be taken on a chariot as part of the traditional Dussehra observances.
Following the completion of the Dussehra rituals, the deities will be adorned in their special golden attire. Lord Madanmohan, Lord Rama and Lord Krishna will wear their Veerabesha (warrior attire) and proceed to the Dussehra Pada before returning to the Srimandir.
Devotees will have the opportunity to witness the deities in their Rajadhiraja Besha, also known as Suna Besha, along with the traditional Dussehra rituals at the temple.
Meanwhile, the observance of the holy month of Kartik will begin at the Srimandir on Thursday, October 22, coinciding with the Ekadashi tithi. On this occasion, the deities will be adorned in their Radha Damodar Besha, and special Balabhoga will be offered to them.
Kartik is regarded as one of the most sacred months in the Hindu religious calendar. According to the Padma Purana, Lord Vishnu is worshipped as Damodara during this month, while the Skanda Purana describes Kartik as a particularly auspicious month for religious observances.
Worship of Lord Krishna, also known as Madhab, along with Goddess Radha holds special significance during this period. The traditional Kartik rituals have been observed at the Srimandir for centuries, attracting devotees who seek the blessings of the Holy Trinity.
