Balangir, May 30: In a historic and culturally significant event held at the Loisingha Rajbati (royal residence), Archana Devi Singh Rai was formally crowned as the 19th Zamindar of the Loisingha estate. This momentous occasion marks her as the first woman in the lineage to hold the title.
Archana Devi, the eldest granddaughter of the late Zamindar Jayakrishna Singh Rai, is the daughter of the late Trayambak Kishore Singh Rai and Rajmata Ogneshwari Singh Rai. Her succession follows the traditional customs of the zamindari family, especially after the demise of her grandfather, father, and elder brother Jyoteshwar Singh Rai.
During the Patna state era, the Loisingha zamindars were known for their substantial influence. Their deep devotion to the family deity, ‘Bada Deo,’ led the Patna king to grant them zamindari rights over 22 village clusters. Belonging to the tribal community, the Loisingha zamindars have historically enjoyed close ties with local residents due to their simple and humble lifestyle. That legacy of respect and connection continues to this day.
Wednesday’s formal enthronement began with traditional rituals in the morning. Following the worship of Bada Deo, Archana Devi was ceremonially blessed and presented with the traditional turban (paga) by her maternal uncle. She was then adorned with a sacred garland (agnamala) brought from the local Jagannath temple. The rituals culminated in a grand procession through the village, where she was greeted with cheers and reverence.
The event witnessed the presence of former minister Narasingha Mishra, prominent figures from local organizations, zamindars from neighboring areas, and representatives of the Gondwana community. Archana Devi received a warm welcome and formal felicitation during the ceremony.
With her enthronement, Archana Devi becomes the 19th zamindar in the Loisingha lineage and the first woman to hold the title. Her ascension has generated widespread interest and enthusiasm among the local population, highlighting both the historical and progressive nature of the occasion.
