Bhubaneswar: This Diwali witnessed explosive fireworks as two popular franchises clashed to the hilt on the tinsel town big screen. Rohit Shetty’s Copverse show Singham Again and Anees Baazmi’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 hit the silver screen on the November 1.

Belying all expectations, both the films had a cracker of opening sorts. When Ajay Devegn starred Singham Again grossed a Rs 43.70 cr net, Kartik Aryan starred Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 netted Rs  36.6 cr. B-Town on Diwali did a explosive business of over Rs 80 cr.

Saturday too the films grossed higher business. Singham Again netted Rs 44.5cr. Bhool Bhulaiyaa collected Rs 38.4cr. The B-town business brimmed with a whopping over 82 cr.

The second day business had raised a higher expectation on Sunday. But defying the trend, Sunday business of both – Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 – posted a dip that raised many an eyebrows.

 SINGHAM AGAIN, BHOOL BHULAIYAA 3 DUCKS B-TOWN TREND 

 The trend in box office so far has been that films, despite opening on holiday, grosses higher business on Sundays. Take a sample check.

• STREE 2: Released on Thursday
• Opening Day collection: 55cr
• Dipped on Day 2 Friday (not holiday)  to 38 cr
• Saturday netted Rs 45.7cr
• Sunday collection higher at 58.2 cr 

JAWAN: Released on Thursday

• Opening Day collected Rs 75 cr
• Day 2 (Friday) collection dipped to Rs 53.2cr
• Saturday collection zoomed up to touch 77.83 cr
• Sunday  collection touched an all time high of Rs 80 cr

GADAR 2: Released on Friday clashing with Akshay Kumar’s Oh My God 2

• Opening Day collection stood at Rs 40.10cr
• Day 2 (Saturday) collection at 43.08 cr
• Sunday colletion at Rs51.7cr.
• Despite clash with Akshay Kumar’s OMG 2,  Sunny Deol’s Gadar 2 netted more business on Sunday
• OMG2 on Sunday collected Rs 17cr up from 10 cr on Opening day.

PATHAN: Released on Wednesday (holiday)

• Opening day collection was 57 cr
• Saturday collection was Rs 53.25cr
• Sunday collection higher at Rs 60.75cr

ANIMAL: Released on Friday

• Opening Day collection was Rs 63.8cr
• Saturday collection up at Rs 67.3cr 
• Sunday Collection higher at Rs 70.69 cr 

A glance at the above trend data shows that big banner and mega star films take a bigger opening on Sunday, higher than the opener earning-be it clash or not. 

However, the trend seems ducked here by both the films –Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3.  

• Singham Again Sunday Collections were nearly 17% down vis-à-vis  Day 2 to touch Rs 36.8cr
• Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 Sunday Collection were down by 8.3% vis-à-vis  Day 2 to net Rs 35.2cr.

When big films, big banners and mega starry films hit a bigger jackpot on Sunday, Ajay Devgn’s Singham Again and Kartik Aryan’s BB3 showed signs of cooling off.  

The Monday collections of Singham Again and BB3 given Below.

• Singham Again: 19.2cr (56% down from highest collection)
• Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3: 17.8 cr (54% down from highest collection) 

Now, take a comparison with the following blockbusters

• Stree 2: 38.4cr (34% down)
• Jawan: 32.92 cr (58.9% down)
• Pathan: 26.5cr ( 56% down)
• Gadar 2 : Rs 38.7cr (25% down)
• Animal : rs 44.47cr (37% down)

 The above data crunching shows both Singham  Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are following the industry trend of dipping by 59% to 25% on Monday. But both the films ducked the Sunday trend of recording record collection.

 And going by the B-town trend, it seems the collection by Friday may drop to below double digit.

 NEXT SCENARIO

 A glance at the above then leads to the next scenario of hitting the jackpot of superhit or blockbuster. Can the films do it? 

• Singham Again made on a budget of over Rs300cr, the film had to net Rs 450 to get declared as Superhit.
• Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 made on a budget 150 cr, the film needs Rs 225 cr to be declared as Super hit.

The BOTTOMLINE is going by the collection trend, Big budget Singham Again movie may not touch the magic number of 450cr. But Kartik Aryan’s Bhool Bhulaiya 3 may touch Rs 225cr.

However, in any case the Box Office record of Stree 2, Jawan, Gadar 2, Pathan and Animal may remain unconquered.
