Bhubaneswar, May 17: Director General of Police (DGP) YB Khurania on Sunday said that there is no place for crimianls in the State as he issued a stern warning to the criminal elements, asking them to refrain from disturbing law and order and committing crimes or else they will be rooted out.
“Anyone attempting to disturb law and order in the State would face strict action from the police administration. Criminals should take lessons from recent police encounters occurred in Berhampur and Sambalpur,” said the DGP.
Maintaining that police have intensified operations against criminals across the State over the past few days, Khurania said that more than 1,700 non-bailable warrants (NBWs) have been executed across Odisha in the last five days.
Six notorious criminals have been booked under the National Security Act (NSA) while more than 50 absconding criminals have been arrested during the state-wide crackdown, said Khurania.
The DGP also said that the movement of released prisoners and habitual offenders is being monitored through intelligence-based surveillance to prevent further criminal activities.
“The special drive against criminals will continue for the next 10 days,” said Khurania.
Notably, on Wednesday, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi reviewed the law and order situation in the State and directed the police administration to intensify crime mapping, strengthen intelligence networks and enhance patrolling to curb organised crime.
Emphasising proactive policing and stronger coordination at the district level, the Chief Minister called for firm action against criminal networks to ensure public safety and maintain law and order across Odisha.
