CHENNAI, July 28: A group of advocates staged protests on Monday at both the Madras High Court and the Madurai Bench, expressing solidarity with fellow lawyer S. Vanchinathan, who is facing contempt of court proceedings.
The action stems from allegations that Vanchinathan made derogatory remarks against a judge in social media posts and in a letter addressed to the Chief Justice of India, accusing the judge of caste and communal bias.
In a related development, eight retired judges of the Madras High Court have appealed to the division bench of the Madurai Bench to withhold any contempt proceedings against Vanchinathan for the time being.
