New Delhi, Jan 14: President Droupadi Murmu extended her heartfelt greetings to the nation on the occasions of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu, emphasizing that these festivals reflect India’s rich agricultural heritage and the spirit of national unity.

In her message on X (formerly Twitter), the President said, "Heartfelt greetings to all Indians living in the country and abroad on the occasion of Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Magh Bihu. These festivals are symbols of India’s rich agricultural traditions and national unity. On this occasion, we also express our gratitude towards nature. Through these festivals, we convey our thanks to our farmer benefactors. My best wishes are that these festivals bring happiness and prosperity into everyone’s lives."

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also extended his greetings on the occasion of Makar Sankranti, Uttarayan, and Magh Bihu. In a post on social media, he expressed his hope that the sacred festival of Makar Sankranti would fill everyone’s lives with happiness, health, and well-being. He also wished for the celebration to strengthen bonds of togetherness while ushering in prosperity and positivity. PM Modi highlighted that Magh Bihu celebrates the joy of harvest, abundance, and unity, and hoped that the spirit of gratitude and harmony would guide the country toward a brighter and more prosperous future.

Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge sent his greetings, describing Lohri as a festival of joy and celebration. He wrote, "Heartiest greetings to all of you on the occasion of Lohri. May this festival of joy and celebration bring boundless happiness and prosperity into your lives."

Union Home Minister Amit Shah also conveyed his best wishes for Lohri, calling it a festival that symbolizes enthusiasm, energy, and positivity. He posted on X, “Heartfelt greetings on the festival of Lohri, a symbol of enthusiasm, zeal, and new energy. May this festival bring happiness and prosperity to all.”

Magh Bihu, one of Assam’s major harvest festivals, marks the end of the harvest season and is celebrated with community feasts and cultural gatherings. Along with Lohri, Pongal, Makar Sankranti, and Uttarayan, Magh Bihu showcases the diverse ways in which harvest festivals are celebrated across India.

Lohri, especially popular in northern India, is marked by bonfires, traditional foods, and folk songs, bringing warmth and joy to the festive season.
