Bhubaneswar: Being the most senior women athlete of the 26th Asian Athletics Championships (AAC), Odisha’s ace sprinter Srabani Nanda won a silver medal in the women's 4X100m relay event at Gumi in South Korea. She got a rousing welcome here at Biju Patnaik international Airport on Tuesday.
Indian team consisting of Srabani Nanda, Abhinaya Rajarajan, Sneha SS and Nithya Gandhe won the silver medal with a timing of 43.86 sec. The gold and bronze medal was claimed by China and Thailand with a timing of 43.28 and 44.26 sec respectively.
The 34-year-old Srabani ran in the first leg of the relay event at Gumi said “It is always a responsibility to start the race and also to set a better tune for the team. Our Indian women 4X100m relay team is a strong team, it has all potential and possibility to make a podium finish in the upcoming Asian Games also. Earlier in the 22nd Asian Athletics Championship 2017 at Kalinga Stadium, our relay team won a bronze medal, now we got a silver medal”.
Talking about the Indian 4X100 relay team Srabani said “the relay event is more of a technical event and needs a lot of coordination among the athletes. Our women sprinters are doing remarkable performance in various events. If a better exposure tour and long-term training schedule will help to bring many laurels for the country”.
