Dhenkanal, May 19: A family dispute turned violent in Odisha’s Dhenkanal district after an 80-year-old man allegedly suffered severe burn injuries when his daughter-in-law poured hot oil and water on him. The incident was reported from Naupal Kateni village under Parjang police limits.

According to sources, the incident took place on Monday night following a heated argument between the elderly man, identified as Srikant Bhutia, and his daughter-in-law over a family matter. In a fit of rage, the woman allegedly threw hot oil and boiling water on her father-in-law, leaving him critically injured.

The victim sustained burn injuries on nearly 50 per cent of his body and was initially rushed to the Parjang Community Health Centre. As his condition deteriorated, doctors later shifted him to the District Headquarters Hospital for advanced treatment.

Family members alleged that after the death of Srikant’s son, the accused woman had been mentally and physically harassing the elderly man for a long time.

On receiving information, Parjang police reached the village and detained the accused woman for questioning. Police have launched an investigation into the incident.
