Vaishnavi, a resident of Mayurbhanj district, lost her left leg in a tragic accident in March while on her way to a local fair near Betanati with her uncle. She was rushed to SCB Medical College in Cuttack, where doctors admitted her to the Plastic Surgery Department for emergency treatment.

A surgical team led by Dr. Bibhuti Bhushan Nayak, Head of the Department, initially attempted to save the injured limb. However, three days post-operation, it was determined that the damage was beyond repair. Doctors were left with no choice but to amputate the leg to save the child’s life.

Given her young age, concerns over Vaishnavi's long-term mobility and well-being became a priority. With support from the state government and Mayurbhanj MLA Sanatan Bijuli, a custom prosthetic limb was prepared for the child.

In an event held today at SCB, the artificial leg was officially handed over to Vaishnavi in the presence of MLA Sanatan Bijuli. He assured the family that the Odisha government would take full responsibility for the child's future.

Vaishnavi, who lives with her mother and comes from an economically disadvantaged background, has already begun taking steps with the new limb. Doctors say she is responding well and will soon be able to lead a normal life.

“This is not just a medical success, but a symbol of hope and resilience,” said Dr. Nayak, expressing confidence in Vaishnavi's recovery.
