Bhubaneswar, July 2: Around 75,000 farmers failed to sell their rabi paddy after the deadline for procurement ended on June 30.
The procurement process in mandis began on May 1 and ended on June 30. However, only 1,96,144 farmers of the state managed to sell their rabi paddy during this timeline out of 2,71,156 registrations.
Highest 84,535 farmers had registered to sell rabi paddy from Bargarh district, known as the rice bowl of Odisha. By june end, 72,901 farmers have sold their crop. Similarly, 41,826 farmers of Kalahandi district sold their paddy out of 51,499 registered farmers while 29,364 farmers sold their crop out of 35,235 registrations in Subarnapur district, according to the data available on Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Department website.
On the other hand, thousands of farmers have complained of katni-Chhatni despite directive of Food Supplies & Consumer Welfare Minister Krushna Chandra Patra. The Minister had directed to give money to farmers within 48 hours of procurement but it is yet to be implemented, alleged some farmers.
