New Delhi, December 23: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will introduce facial biometric authentication and live photography during entrance exams starting with JEE (Mains) in January 2026. This initiative aims to combat impersonation and malpractices by verifying candidates' identities at multiple stages of the exam process.

The new system will include facial recognition during exams and live photo captures during application submissions. The technology will help confirm a person’s identity through unique facial features and prevent impersonation.

These measures follow recommendations from the Radhakrishnan Committee, which suggested a major overhaul of the entrance exam system. The committee's plan includes digitalisation, enhanced security, and a two-phase reform strategy. The first phase focuses on multi-level biometric verification, while the second phase proposes a "Digi-Exam" platform for more secure, digital exams.

The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) Main 2026 is scheduled for January 21-30, 2026.
