Gaza, April 13:Palestinian sources report that at least three Palestinian journalists were injured in an Israeli shelling incident targeting them at the Nusseirat refugee camp in central Gaza.
According to eyewitnesses who spoke to Xinhua news agency on Friday, the Israeli artillery fired a shell at a group of journalists while they were covering events in the Nusseirat camp. The incident follows the Israeli army's announcement on Thursday of a surprise military operation on the outskirts of the Nusseirat camp, as reported by Xinhua news agency.
Medical sources informed Xinhua that the three injured journalists were taken to the Shuhada al-Aqsa Hospital in Deir al-Balah. One of them suffered an amputation of his right foot and scattered shrapnel wounds on his body, while the other two sustained moderate injuries.
The Israeli army has not yet commented on the incident. Meanwhile, the Hamas-run government media office issued a statement accusing the Israeli army of deliberately targeting the three journalists who were clearly marked with "Press" vests. The statement denounced the targeting of media crews as part of what it called "severe violations against Palestinian journalists," characterizing it as a deliberate attempt to intimidate and silence the truth.
The International Federation of Journalists has been urged to condemn the incident and to pursue legal action against the Israeli occupation for its alleged crimes against journalists and media professionals in international forums and courts.
This incident is not isolated, as it marks a continuation of attacks on journalists during the ongoing conflict since October 7 last year. According to data from the Gaza government media office, nearly 140 journalists have been killed in Israeli attacks on the Gaza Strip over the past six months.
