Bhubaneswar, Aug 21: The 2nd day of Budget session in Odisha Assembly adjourned with storms over hooch tragedy in Ganjam on Wednesday.
While the house was on full swing to discuss key issues related to Agriculture and Farmer’s Empowerment, Food Supply and Rural Welfare, Energy, Cooperatives, Fisheries and Livestock, Textile Industry, Handicrafts and Handicrafts, MSME, Science and Technology departments, opposition leaders led by senior Legislator Tara Prasad Bahinipati rushed to the well of the House demanding an RDC probe into the liquor tragedy that claimed two lives in Ganjam villages and left 15 others ill. Congress MLAs demanded protection of the rights of the marginalised sections of the society.
During chaos and protests, proceedings of the Odisha Legislative Assembly were adjourned twice — first till 11.30 am and again till 4.00 pm – on Wednesday after pandemonium prevailed in the House over the hooch tragedy in Ganjam district on
Following this, Speaker Surama Padhy adjourned the proceedings till 11.30 am. Later, she adjourned the House till 4.00 pm when pandemonium persisted even after the House assembled once again after noon.
