2 more Omicron positive cases detected in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Dec 6: Two more cases of Omicron variant have been detected in Maharashtra’s Mumbai on Monday taking India's Omicron infected tally to 23. According to the Mumbai Health Department, a 37-year-old man who had come from Johannesburg, South Africa on November 25, and his 36-year-old friend who returned from the USA were tested positive for the Omicron variant today. With Omicron making its presence in Maharashtra, the state government has asked districts to procure the S-gene test which enables quick detection of the variant. Meanwhile, several states have stepped up vaccination, surveillance and containment measures as India detected over 20 cases of Omicron variant of coronavirus. 23 cases of the Omicron variant have been detected in India so far, out of which, two are from Karnataka, one from Gujarat, 10 from Maharashtra, nine from Rajasthan and one from Delhi, said the Health Ministry database.
