Paradip, April 9: As many as 17 medicinal fishes caught from Odisha’s Paradip coast on Tuesday fetched Rs 25 lakh.
The rare fish identified as Telia Borei species blossomed smile among the traditional fishermen who netted the big cache while fishing in the deep sea in Jagatsinghpur district limit.
The fish market in the port town pulled the crowd of fish traders in the morning today when the most costly fishes were showcased for striking auctions.
During the auction, the catch of rare Telia fish weighing around 3 quintal ,was sold for a whopping Rs 18 lakh. A private agency with chain of sea food business abroad became to highest bidder to lift the fishes.
Source said that the bidder is scheduled to sell out the fishes to a medicine firm that deals with fish fat-based lifesaving medicines
Worth mentioning, earlier in December 2023 a group of fishermen had netted 17 rare Telia fishes from the sea near Paradip that fetched Rs 25 lakh in a fast.
