Digapahandi, June 8: A 15-year-old girl was allegedly abducted by a 17-year-old boy from her village in Odisha’s Ganjam district, with the victim’s family accusing the boy’s parents of helping him in the act.

The incident was reported from a village under Digapahandi block.

According to a complaint lodged with Digapahandi police, the girl had recently passed her Class X examinations, while the accused is a Class IX student from the same village.

Family members alleged that the girl was taken away when she was alone at home. Her younger sister reportedly witnessed the incident and informed their mother. Despite extensive searches by relatives and villagers, the family was unable to locate the girl.

The victim’s mother later contacted the boy’s parents over the phone. They allegedly told her that the girl was with them in Rajamahendravaram in neighbouring Andhra Pradesh and claimed that she was safe. The boy’s father reportedly asked the family to settle the matter amicably.

However, when the girl was not returned, her family approached the police and filed a formal complaint. In the FIR, the family also alleged that the accused had threatened to kill the girl if the matter was reported to the police.

Based on the complaint, Digapahandi police have registered a case against the boy and his parents and launched an investigation. Police are making efforts to trace the missing girl and ascertain the circumstances surrounding the incident.
