Bhubaneswar, Sept 13: In a significant step towards simplifying the legal process in the state, the Odisha government has announced the appointment of 1,200 new notaries. Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan informed that a digital database of notaries will also be developed to enhance transparency and accessibility.
Chairing a review meeting at the Law Department’s conference hall yesterday, Minister Harichandan emphasized the importance of notaries in streamlining legal procedures for the public. A key highlight of the meeting was the proposal to create a dedicated web portal for notaries and legal practitioners.
According to the minister, notaries appointed across various districts will be registered on the portal. They will be required to regularly update details of their official activities through the system. The initiative aims to bring greater accountability and efficiency to notarial services in the state.
Officials from the Law Department and other stakeholders were present during the meeting, where the proposal received unanimous support. The move is expected to modernize the notary system and improve legal service delivery across Odisha.
