Bhubaneswar, Aug 17: At least 1164 dengue cases have been reported in Bhubaneswar this year by August 14.

“Blood samples were collected from 10,288 persons under the jurisdiction of Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) by August 14. Out of which 1164 samples tested positive for dengue,” said a BMC official.

However, the dengue case rate has been 11 percent this year which is less than the last two years. The dengue case rate was 19 percent in 2022 and 24 percent in 2021.

A total of 471 patients were admitted to various hospitals in the city by August 14. Out of which 421 patients recovered and 50 patients are undergoing treatment.

Notably, the BMC on Wednesday started a dengue audit drive to check breeding sources of mosquitoes in every household of the capital city amid the rising dengue issue.

According to the report, BMC has decided to impose a fine of Rs 1000 on households and Rs 5000 on institutions if a potential breeding source of dengue mosquito or larvae is found. More than 10 teams have been formed for the audit.
