Bhubaneswar, May 7: The Basudevpur assembly segment of Bhadrak district is indeed witnessing an intriguing triangular fight in the upcoming elections.
Basudevpur has been a stronghold of the ruling Biju Janata Dal (BJD) for the past 30 years.
Bijayshree Routray, who won consecutively six times from 1990 to 2014, has played a significant role in establishing this dominance.
In 2019, Bishnubrat Routray, Bijayshree’s son, secured victory as the BJD candidate.
Bishnubrat Routray has been re-nominated by the BJD, aiming to retain the seat.
The main contenders are the BJD and the Congress.
Ashok Das, representing the Congress, is once again in the race. In the previous election, he gave a tough fight to Bishnubrat, losing by just 9518 votes.
Ashok has already consolidated his position compared to the last election, making him a formidable opponent.
As the former chairman of Basudevpur Municipality, Ashok enjoys local support.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has fielded Banikalyan Mohanty, a turncoat who was previously the youth secretary of the BJD.
After being expelled from the BJD, Banikalyan joined the BJP and is now seeking votes in the name of the Modi guarantee.
With three strong contenders—BJD, Congress, and BJP—Basudevpur is set for an intense triangular battle.
