Bhubaneswar, Mar 27: The Bhubaneswar-Cuttack Commissionerate Police on Wednesday conducted raids across the capital city, leading to the apprehension of two hardcore criminals involved in illegal arms activities. The arrested individuals are Suraj Parida, an Electrical Engineering diploma holder, and Tapudhar Nayak.
Police Commissioner Sanjeeb Panda disclosed that the police seized 5 semi-automatic pistols, 24 rounds of live ammunition, mobile phones, and magazines from the suspects. Panda also mentioned that in anticipation of the upcoming elections, the Commissionerate Police has initiated a large-scale operation. He stated, "As we approach the 2024 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections, our special teams are actively conducting raids and monitoring the illegal firearms trade in Cuttack and Bhubaneswar. We have received leads on the sources of these arms, and once we interrogate the accused in custody, we anticipate gathering more information about the arms trade."
According to the Commissionerate Police, a total of 17 firearms have been seized from Bhubaneswar and Cuttack in 2024 thus far.
