Bhubaneswar, February 21: Odisha Vigilance on Saturday arrested Bhagabat Bhusan Behera, Forester, Bhawanipatna Forest Range in Kalahandi district for possession of disproportionate assets.

Based on searches conducted on properties of Behera, he was found in possession of disproportionate assets including one newly constructed multi storeyed building, nine high value plots and 470 gram gold, Rs 34.08 lakh deposits.

He was also found in possession of benami assets including two Kubota Harvester machines, four tractors, one Ashok Leyland Tipper, one BharatBenz Hyva, one Bolero Vehicle, one Toyota Car.

“In this connection, Koraput Vigilance PS case No. 02/2026 has been registered against Sri Bhagabat Bhusan Behera, Forester, Bhawanipatna Forest Range, Dist- Kalahandi,” said a Vigilance statement.

Vigilance sleuths on Friday unearthed assets worth crores during simultaneous house searches at three locations linked to Bhagbat Bhusan Behera, forester of Bhatangpadar forest section under Bhawanipatna forest range in Kalahandi district.

Behera joined Government service on August 20, 2000, as a Forest Guard under the DFO (North), Kalahandi, with an initial salary of Rs 3,000 per month. He was promoted to the rank of Forester on March 5, 2024, and has been serving in various forest ranges in Kalahandi district for over 25 years.
