Bhubaneswar, Sep 27: The union forest, environment and climate change department has approved a detailed project report (DPR) worth Rs 71.19 crore to transform Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Odisha’s Sambalpur district into an international eco-tourism destination.

Union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan announced the development on social media.

“I thank Prime Minister Shri @narendramodi, Odisha Chief Minister Shri @MohanMOdisha, and the State Forest, Environment and Climate Change Minister Shri Ganesh Ram Singh Khuntia for approving the DPR worth ₹71.19 crore to develop Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary into a world-class eco-tourism destination,” Pradhan posted on X.

Pradhan said the project would showcase Debrigarh’s pristine natural beauty to global visitors while strengthening wildlife conservation efforts.

“This decision will not only introduce Debrigarh’s natural charm to an international audience but also create significant employment opportunities for local communities,” he stated.

Home to diverse flora and fauna and located near the iconic Hirakud Dam, Debrigarh is poised to become a prominent destination for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
