Delhi Capitals Women Secure Command Performance Against UP Warriorz

Opening partnership sets tone for comprehensive Delhi Capitals chase

Delhi Capitals Women delivered a clinical performance to defeat UP Warriorz by 7 wickets in the 7th match of the WPL 2026 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Chasing a target of 155, the Capitals reached the finish line with a score of 158/3, thanks to a dominant batting display from their openers.

Lizelle Lee and Shafali Verma Shine

Chasing 155 for victory, Delhi Capitals got off to a flying start. Openers Shafali Verma and Lizelle Lee dismantled the UP Warriorz bowling attack with an aggressive 94-run partnership. Shafali Verma played a steady hand of 36 off 32 balls, while Lizelle Lee was the star of the show. Lee smashed a blistering 67 runs off just 44 deliveries, including eight boundaries and three sixes.

Although UP Warriorz managed to pick up a few late wickets, including the dismissal of Jemimah Rodrigues for 21, unbeaten knocks from Laura Wolvaardt (25*) and Marizanne Kapp ensured there were no further hiccups. The Capitals chased down the total comfortably, marking crucial points on the WPL 2026 leaderboard.

Lanning’s Effort in Vain for UP Warriorz

Earlier in the evening, UP Warriorz struggled to build momentum after being asked to bat first. Captain Meg Lanning led from the front with a gritty 54 off 38 balls, but she lacked support from the other end. While Harleen Deol contributed a valuable 47, the rest of the batting lineup crumbled under pressure.

Delhi's bowlers were disciplined throughout the innings. Marizanne Kapp was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 2 wickets for just 24 runs. Shafali Verma also contributed with the ball, taking 2 wickets for 16 runs, helping restrict UP Warriorz to 154/8 in their 20 overs.

This victory strengthens the Delhi Capitals' position in the tournament, while UP Warriorz will look to address their middle-order collapse in upcoming fixtures.
