Bhubaneswar, October 3: The depression over interior Odisha has been advancing northwards at a speed of 18 km/h, continuing its movement over the past six hours, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) reported.
At 2:30 PM IST, the system was positioned over interior Odisha and adjoining Chhattisgarh near the coordinates 21.7°N and 83.5°E. It was located 20 km south-southeast of Raigarh (Chhattisgarh), 50 km west-northwest of Sambalpur (Odisha), 140 km southeast of Bilaspur (Chhattisgarh), 170 km south of Ambikapur (Chhattisgarh), and 200 km north of Bhawanipatna (Odisha).
The IMD indicated that the depression is expected to continue its northward movement across interior Odisha and northern Chhattisgarh. However, it is forecast to gradually weaken into a well-marked low-pressure area within the next 12 hours.
This system has already brought heavy rainfall to several districts in southern and western Odisha, prompting authorities to monitor water levels in major rivers and reservoirs closely.
